Monsters in my room

A few months ago, my Outlaw bought wall stickers of "Where the Wild Things Are". Buckaroo has been asking for the last week to put them on his wall, in his room. I told him he could do it this evening after his room was cleaned. He asked for help to complete the rather large task. Outlaw and I helped.

In the middle of cleaning, Buckaroo brings Outlaw a book and begs him to read it. Outlaw misses out on bedtime most nights, so he was more than happy to oblige. The book was about monsters. It is one that came with our last box of Cheerios. Buckaroo and Outlaw enjoyed reading about the monsters. Too bad Outlaw likes to stimulate Buckaroo's overactive imagination. Buckaroo was convinced that a hungry monster lived under his bed... Thanks Love.

The room was cleaned. We asked Buckaroo if he still wanted to stick his monster stickers on the wall. "YES!!!!" he replied. I left this up to Outlaw and Buckaroo and went on to play with Cubby. Forty five minutes later they were finished. Buckaroo and Cubby really do have monsters in their room now.

Bedtime has come. Both boys were hugged, kissed and tucked in tight. Buckaroo looks at his new monsters and decides he is not too sure if he wants them there anymore. My dear and loving husband decided to put them right above their door and in direct sight of Buckaroo's bed. Goodnight!

Shortly after we shut the door, Buckaroo starts  whining about monsters. I told Outlaw that he was on monster duty tonight, considering he was the one who told Buckaroo that there were monsters under his bed,and that they were hungry. Outlaw goes in to try to console him. As soon as Buckaroo sees Outlaw, he starts saying "Take them down! Take them down!!!". We decided to wait a few days before taking them down.  Outlaw talks to Buckaroo for a little while, then says goodnight.

A little while later, Buckaroo is whining again. Outlaw decides Buckaroo is ok, and will calm down on his own. I am mommy and my heart was breaking, hearing my little cowboy crying. I go in.

When I open the door he stops whining instantly. Until he sees that it is me. He starts screaming "TAKE THEM DOWN!!!" I asked him to make a deal with mommy. He agreed. I gave him back his glow worm in exchange for 1 week of the monsters "protecting" him. He calms down enough for me to tell him a story about the monsters.

"The little boy dressed up as an animal is Buckaroo. He is playing with little brother Cubby. Mommy and Daddy are there watching you guys play with your friends..." It worked! He smiled and accepted the monsters and the little boy.

Sleep...
